Counting Down To Christmas With Family Movie Night Fun

The holiday season is well underway, and things have gotten somewhat busier around here.  Things are already busy around here because of Philip’s work schedule, so sometimes it’s hard to work in family activities.  However, In an effort to make sure we spend more time as a family this holiday season, I created my own DIY Advent calendar and filled it up with lots of activities we can do as a family.  One of the activities we planned was to have a family movie night on Sunday because that is the one day that we really didn’t have anything else planned this week.

We buy a lot of movies, especially kiddie movies for Z.E.N.  We kept seeing the commercials for the new release of Ice Age 4, and Z.E.N. Reminded that we never saw the third one yet.  So I decided to pick up a copy of Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on my weekly trip to WalMart.

Now you all know I don’t cook as much as I should, so for our little family movie night event, I decided to give Philip a break and also pick up our meal.  While I was at WalMart, I noticed that on some packages of Stouffer’s meals, there was a special offer for a free bag of Nestle candy when you also purchased New York Texas Toast. Garlic bread and pasta go well together so of course I jumped on this offer.  Plus, who can’t resist candy?

When Z.E.N. opened up the little box in the Advent calendar on Sunday morning and which and saw that the day’s activity was family movie night, he started jumping up and down because he was so excited and just couldn’t wait to see the movie.

This was today's Advent countdown activity.

I was excited too, because I knew that dinner would be really easy and would only take around 90 minutes to prepare!

The lasagna and the Texas toast was really tasty.  I think we all had seconds. We were all so full, that we didn’t have any room left for dessert!  Even so, the family size was pretty generous and we wound up with some leftovers.

After dinner, we went down to our family room to watch the movie.  We had a blast because it was so funny.  We can’t wait to see Ice Age 4 Continental Drift which is coming out on DVD on December 11th.

We all had a really enjoyable day and loved spending quality time together.
