While I love going to the movies with my family, I would much rather watch movies from the comfort of my home. I’ve always dreamed of having my own media room.  A media room is the ultimate space where my family and friends can gather to watch movies, television, listen to music, play games and generally be entertained. Here are some pointers on creating a media room of your dreams!

Get the seating right.

Seating is essential to a comfortable home theater. Great seating can make or break a media room. The key is making sure everyone is comfortable and has an equally good view of the television.

You need a decent screen.

Obviously, any home theater setup needs a great television. There are two things to pay attention to when buying a television: shape and size. To watch movies in their original widescreen format, you’ll need a TV with a rectangularly shaped 16:9 aspect ratio rather than the traditional, squarish 4:3. For the best picture clarity and greatest detail, you’ll need to consider the size and layout of your space. The farther away from your seating area, the smaller your TV appears so it would be a great idea to look for the largest screen you can afford. The key is making sure everyone has an equally good view of the television. Or in place of a TV, you may even want to consider a projector and retractable screen. The projector itself is an investment, but once you have it, you can use it in lots of different ways.

You need a good sound system.

A good television is nothing without a great audio setup. Let’s face it, the audio from your TV’s built-in speakers is not the best. One of the easiest ways to improve the audio for your TV is with a soundbar. A good option is the Polk Command Sound  Bar with Amazon Alexa built-in.

The Command Bar is packed with two mid-woofers and two tweeters. There’s also that 6.5-inch subwoofer. I am not an audiophile, but in my opinion, the sound produced by the Polk Command Bar is really good. The wireless sub-woofer provides a nice bass to everything and there are three modes to fine tune the sound output – Movie, Sports, and Music – which are selectable on the remote or via voice commands to Alexa.
