Duane Reade’s new iPhone App Makes Shopping Super Easy

When it comes to shopping, convenience and savings are two things I always look for.  There are certain stores, I hate to visit because the experiences I’ve had there have not been great ones.  Then there are the stores that are doing it right, stores like Duane Reade.  What makes it even better to shop there is the fact that they just came out with a brand new iPhone app.

Most of their stores are located in New York City.  I now live in New Jersey so finding the closest store to me has not always been that easy.  I hate to say it, but the store locator on their site does not seem to work very well.  I have always thought that the the store in Staten Island was probably the closest.  Well guess what, the new Duane Reade app has a store finder feature.  I punched in my zip code, and it confirmed that the store in Staten Island is the closest one.

Using Duane Reade's app, I was able to confirm which store was closest to my home.

This past weekend I had many errands to run in a couple of different towns here in NJ.  I really needed to figure out if there were any Duane Reade stores in the area where we would be traveling to.  I punched in the zip codes and found that there was a store fairly close to both location in the town of Irvington NJ.  Having this information made planning our trip just so much easier.  Before checking the app, I originally thought that we would have to make a trip over to Staten Island, but luckily, that was not the case!

Since I was going to be traveling to a few different towns, I wanted to find a store that was pretty much in the vicinity of where I was traveling to. I was able to easily do so via the Duane Reade app.

When we finally arrived at the store, I made use of the app a few more times.  We didn’t plan on shopping for much on this visit.  Philip wanted to buy some vitamins, and I wanted to pick up some eco-friendly toilet tissue.   Finding what we needed was a breeze since the app also features a store map.  I quickly checked the app to see where the items we needed were located.

I love the fact that you can see a layout of the store. This makes it easy to find waht you need.

And as always, whenever we go shopping, we never seem to stick to the list.  While browsing, I came across an item where the price was not clearly labeled.   In this case, I used the scanner feature to check the price on an item that was not clearly labeled.  It was very simple and quick.  In other stores, you would either have to walk around looking for a price checker, or find an employee and ask them to verify the price, so I love the ease having a price checker right in my pocket!

I was able to check the price on an item using the app.

Checking out was also a breeze.  I loathe having all those different points program cards on my keychain.  I love the fact that the cashier can simply scan my Balance Rewards card right from my phone.

I handed my phone to the cashier so he could scan my balance rewards card.

I always have my phone on me, so I will never run into the situation where I have forgotten the rewards card at home.

All in all, this was a very pleasant shopping trip, and I can thank the new app for helping to make it so pleasant.
