Finding Green Products at Duane Reade

As you all know, I am really working on going green and trying to live a healthier life.  The only problem I face though is the fact that organic and green products tend to be a little pricier than their non-green counterparts, so I’m still at a stage where I buy green products only when they are on sale or when I can afford it.

Recently, I picked up the newest edition of Duane Reade’s in store magazine, Happy and Healthy.  As I was browsing, I noticed a full 2 page spread featuring a new line of environmentally friendly products called Ology.  I also noticed that the prices were very reasonable so I vowed to check them out on my next trip to Duane Reade.

When I finally did get to going back to Duane Reade, my first mission was to find these products.  Philip and Z.E.N. came along for the ride.  I had misplaced the copy of Happy and Healthy that I had at home so I picked up a new one to refresh my memory as to what the products looked like.

Here I am checking out the Duane Reade Happy and Healthy magazine

I showed the items to Philip as well so he could know what to look out for.  The first item we found was the Ology toilet tissue.

This tissue is 100% tree free!  It’s actually made from sugarcane husks and bamboo.  Bamboo is a grass and can actually regenerate in just 6 months.

As we moved further up the aisle, we found the Ology cleaning and laundry products.

Ology products do not contain any harmful chemicals and have been endorsed by Healthy Child, Healthy World, which is an organization that strives to protect children from harmful chemicals. These are exactly the types of products that I’m looking for!If you’re looking for chemical free products for your household as well, make sure to check out the Ology products at Duane Reade.

  • Hi Diane,

I try to buy as many Organic products as possible. My issue mainly lies with the fact that I am limited since I am living out of the country for the next 6 months. I decided to go green as much as I could when I became pregant with my child. I will say that my grocery and cleaning bill is higher but I feel it is better for her and the environment and we can make cuts elsewhere. One of the things that I do to help me with my increased expenses is sign up on the different sites for coupons. We use Horizon for our milk and they send us coupons, with strength the budget a little bit. Great article.

    • Great idea about signing up for coupons. I tend to not be consistent because of the higher cost. Coupons would help tremendously!

  • I like that Oology is natural and green and well priced too! We don’t have a Duane Reade store in my area. 🙁 I would like to give it a try though if I could ever find a store of theirs nearby.

    • Duane Reade is owned by Walgreen’s. Walgreen’s also carries Ology products.

  • Thanks for this great product tip! I noticed in the comments that you said Duane Reade is owned by Walgreens, which means I will be able to try these out!

  • I just tested out the hair care OLOGY line from my local Walgreens! LOVE THE SMELL! OH MY SO YUMMY SMELLING!

    Great products!!!

  • I’ll admit it, I had never heard of Ology products but I like helping the earth so I’ll have to try them out 🙂

  • Great green tip! With Duane Reade stores on every other corner in my neighborhood, you’ve just made shopping green a little easier for many of us. Thanks a bunch.
