Helpful Tips Tuesday – 8 Easy Ways To Burn Calories

philzendia helpful tips tuesdayThe age-old belief about weight loss is to burn calories through intensive physical activities. However, the fact is that the human body does burn calories every day, even without our knowing it. What we consider as normal, day-to-day activities are actually effective calorie-burning activities. After all, our bodies need to burn fuel in order to function normally. Tired of the huffing and puffing at the gym or just simply want to supplement weight loss without working out every day? Here are 8 easy ways to burn calories from anywhere:

Eat breakfast.

Always start the day right. By eating breakfast, you keep your body primed and your metabolism at its peak. Getting nourishment in the morning signals the body that it is full and not starving. If the body starves, it tends to conserve fat and burn muscle instead. If it is full, it will treat fat as excess baggage. As a result, it will burn fat and not try to keep it on to protect itself.

Get fiber.

Fiber is more difficult for the body to digest, so it works harder. Fiber is also filling, so you are less likely to eat more or grab a snack.

Work with your hands.

Give the dishwasher a rest once each day and wash the dishes with your hands. Small activities such as sweeping the floor, vacuuming, watering plants or cooking dinner actually require lots of energy, so take advantage of this opportunity.

Ditch the car.

Try walking to an appointment or destination. Park the car a little farther than you used to and go the rest of the way on foot.

Hurry up a bit.

Walking burns calories but walking as if you are in a hurry burns more.

Fidget.

Ever noticed how people who cannot seem to stay still are more likely to be slim? Fidgeting lets you burn as much as 300 to 350 calories each day. If you are a naturally still and calm person, try tapping your feet or drumming your fingers. Get up from your seat once in a while and pace. Stretching your legs will also help loosen up tight muscles and joints.

Get enough sleep at night.

Not only will you feel refreshed in the morning, you will also keep your metabolism primed. Losing sleep or deliberately skipping a few hours each night affects your body’s ability to burn fuel. Best get at least 7 hours of restful snooze each night.

Lighten up.

Do not be afraid to use your funny bone when the moment presents itself. Laughing heartily lets you burn about 3-5 calories a minute. So laugh and enjoy life.

  • I have always been a fidgeter. In fact when I am in situations that I don’t want people to think I am nervous, I purposely have to make myself be still. Lately though, probably because I am getting older, I have been gaining more weight. I have been spending more time writing in bed so recently I decided that I am going to spend at least 75% of the time standing while writing and listening to fun music that makes me bebop while I type. I already feel better about myself.

Thanks for sharing these wonderful tips!

    Peace,
    Morgan

  • These are great tips, thanks for sharing. Fidgeting is new to me as a way to burn calories, but I do it. 😉
I guess there is some good in tapping your feet while sitting.

  • Great post because I was thinking how can I not put too much weight on now that I can’t move a lot because I am worried I might not have enough milk if I. I am going to follow some of the tips and see what I can get. Thank you for sharing 🙂
