How to Make Time For Reading

How often do you read? I used to be a voracious reader, but a while back, I just stopped.  I have no real reason, as to why I stopped, but I do have a bunch of excuses. I have found that I am not the only one. Many friends in my circle have nothing but excuses as well. A lack of time is the number one reason cited for not reading as well as not finding interesting reading material. Also, most people watch television or surf the Internet to relax after a long day. While these excuses are popular, let’s talk about how reading can actually help you relax more than the other activities traditionally considered great ways to unwind and how to make time for reading.

Benefits of Reading

The following are reasons why you should read something everyday:

  • Reading helps take your mind off your sources of stress and elevating your mood.
  • Numerous studies have shown that watching television for hours can have many harmful effects on your body. Instead of helping you to unwind, this activity causes your body to remain in a constant stressed state.
  • Neurologists found that reading decreases the chances of mental decline. Reading exercises your memory, imagination, and thought processes.

As much as book lovers wish that they could set aside a couple of hours a day to read a book, it’s simply not possible at times. For busy people, reading for several hours at a time may mean that tasks are not completed and deadlines are missed. Reading becomes a hobby of times passed instead of a loved pastime. Others who are impartial to books -for whatever, unfathomable reason, never get the chance to warm up to books or find an interesting read. However, there are a number of ways to sneak in reading time throughout the day.

How to Make Time For Reading

  • Keep a book close by. You never know when you will get a free minute. This includes carrying a copy of the latest thriller, comic book or magazine in your purse or glove compartment to read while you wait for a child to finish soccer practice or for a doctor’s appointment.
  • Read during your work breaks. Studies show that completely taking your mind off work during your breaks can lead to greater productivity when you resume your tasks.
  • Read while you carpool to work.
  • Read for enjoyment.
  • Choose shorter novels.

Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris

I have the perfect book to get you back into reading. It’s called Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. I read this book in about 4 hours! This psychological thriller is a page turner and relatively short book. The story describes Jack and Grace who seem like a perfectly charming couple at first glance until the author starts revealing more details about their past lives and present activities. The story is told from Grace’s perspective. The timeline alternates from the past to present, which made it easy to read and helped to keep the momentum going. I don’t want to give away too much, but let’s just say that you never really know what’s going on behind closed doors. After reading this book, I wondered if something like this could actually happen in real life. I shudder at the thought of this happening in real life.

This B. A. Paris thriller will give you all the benefits of reading and keep you enthralled from cover to cover. Make sure to pick up a copy HERE! The book will be available for purchase on August 9th.
