How To Keep Hair Moisturized In The Winter

Winter’s not exactly a great hair season for me. Between the lack of moisture in the air, and the whipping wind, my hair really takes a beating during the winter. I always try to look my best though so I’m always on the lookout for solutions on how to how to keep my hair which is always on the dry side, moisturized in an effort to prevent it from becoming damaged. Fortunately, a few clever hair tips and tricks will teach you all that you need to know about winter hair care and how to keep your hair moisturized in the winter.

Protect your hair from the elements

One of the best ways to keep your hair moisturized in the winter is to wear a scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the cold and wind.  Wearing protective styles can also help protect your hair.

Change your shampoo schedule

Try not to shampoo your hair daily. Dermatologists and stylists agree that there’s little reason to shampoo every day.  If you have oily hair, try using a milder shampoo or a dry shampoo.

Be gentle on your hair

Wet hair is fragile and is more prone to breakage.  Be gentle when you towel dry. Also, never, ever brush wet hair.  Instead, try finger detangling or use a wide tooth comb to detangle.

Smooth your cuticles

One of the things that can make your hair look rough in the winter are  jagged cuticles. If you want to get rid of that look, use cold water at the end of your shower or use the cool setting on your dryer to help smooth things out.

Nourish Your Hair

Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to help keep you hair moisturized in the winter. The Head & Shoulders Moisture Care products for textured hair are a great choice for this process. The products in this line are packed with vitamin-E,  almond oil and coconut essence, ingredients which help deliver moisture to hair.  This product line includes a shampoo, a co-wash and a scalp treatment. They say that it is gentle enough to use on chemically treated hair.  It’s also very affordable.

My favorite product from this line is the Head & Shoulders Co-Wash. To co-wash is to basically wash your hair with conditioner.  It’s much gentler on your hair, and since you’re basically washing with conditioner, it tends to leave you hair softer and more moisturized. The Head & Shoulders co-wash is thick and creamy and smells good too!  It left my hair feeling silky soft.shampoo

Don’t forget to take care of your scalp

During the winter months, our scalps also can become more sensitive resulting in an itchy and flaky scalp. To combat this you can try using the  Moisture Care Scalp Soother. The scalp soother contains a peppermint oil complex which provides a cool sensation and helps to soothe the scalp and relieve any irritation you may have.
