Learn About The Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program

It is that time of year again that many kids dread and most parents are counting down the days until school starts again. I remember as a kid trying to cling onto those last days of summer like my life depended on it. I didn’t want to think about starting school again. I basked in my last few days of freedom. While I was trying my best to forget that school would start soon, I remember the excitement in the air for my parents. They would never come straight out and say that they were ready for me to go back to school, but I could tell. As school got closer each day, their excitement rose.

This was one of the few times that my mother would look forward to taking me shopping. We would spend a few days getting all of the supplies and clothes I needed to start the school year off right. Now looking back on it, I was so lucky to have parents that wanted and could send me back to school each year prepared. It breaks my heart to think of all the families that cannot afford to purchase the supplies needed for their children to be successful in school.

During this time of year, I am always on the lookout for stores that offer programs that help families in need. If I can purchase these items for my son and help other families at the same time, I am all for it! One such store is Office Depot.  Through their National Backpack Program, they will be donating 300,000 new school sackpacks to children in need in all 50 states.

The sackpacks have been specially designed with children in mind. They come in (6) different colors with child friendly graphic designs. Each sackpack includes a zippered pouch containing a pen, pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser, 6” ruler and four crayons.  I love the fact that there are no Office Depot logos anywhere on the sackpacks to avoid any identification of it being an act of charity.

I think this is a great program! Receiving these materials can make such a difference to a child’s success in school! You can find more information about the National Backpack Program on the Office Depot Foundation web pageFacebook page and on their Twitter page.
