The Mrs. Empower Women To Believe They’re Enough

I believe that I'm Enough! What about you?

Special thanks to the Mrs. for sponsoring today’s post on women empowerment and reminding me that #imENOUGH.

With the barrage of messages that women receive each day—lose weight, color your hair, look younger—it’s no wonder that so many of us struggle with body and self image issues. The innovative and talented women that make up the all female band, “The Mrs.” want to change that. This band of five moms of teenagers recently released their first single at, BlogHer 2014, the nationwide conference of women bloggers and media specialists.

The Mrs. carry out their message of empowerment by telling women how beautiful they are, regardless of what society or the media may say. With their catchphrase and song titled, “I’m Enough,” they encourage women to see themselves for who they really are—beautiful, compassionate and caring people who deserve to be told, “you are beautiful,” and “you are enough.”

The inspiration behind this band, and this movement, is a group of moms who wanted better messages for their daughters. They wanted their daughters to see value in themselves as whole individuals, and not as numbers on a scale. All too often, women look in the mirror and hate what they see because society has told them that they are not thin enough, young enough or beautiful enough.

To test this phenomenon, one weekend, The Mrs. set up a mirror in an undisclosed location in Austin and encouraged women to take a look at themselves. They were asked to rate how they felt about the reflection they saw. Using a sliding scale, women were given the option of rating themselves highly or low, with the bottom rating being “woof.” Not surprisingly, most of the women rated themselves harshly.

The display consisted of a two way mirror, and during the exercise, a voice booms from behind the mirror, asking them why they were so self-critical. Some of the participants had been previously selected, and were treated to a montage of friends and family telling them just how beautiful and special they were. Many were moved to tears at the idea of being “enough.”

The Mrs. hopes to spread their message of empowerment to women across the globe, convincing them that they are truly beautiful, both inside and out.
