Prevent Summer Slide With Free Microsoft YouthSpark Summer Camps

*I am part of the #MicrosoftBloggers Program and receive incentives from Microsoft to blog about their products.  Prevent Summer Slide with Free Microsoft “Summer slide” is known as the common problem of kids losing gains in learning during the summer months in between school years. It can affect elementary- through high school students, and over time it can be a detriment to future academic performance. To prevent summer slide, keeping kids challenged and engaged with mentally-stimulating activities is a key step.  I’ve been on the lookout for programs that will keep Z.E.N. stimulated during the summer.  I’m excited about this one that I recently found out about.  It’s called the Microsoft Youthspark summer camp.

At the Microsoft Youthspark summer camp, kids of all ages can learn how to code for free as well as build and launch their own mobile games. Other Youthspark courses and activities cover web design, photography, digital film-making and much more. I signed Z.E.N. up for 2 different courses, Smart Game Coding for beginners, and Smart Game Design for beginners.  I’m hoping that he enjoys it.  Camps and courses are offered at various local Microsoft retail stores, and Youthspark also offers several summer immersion programs for high school students who are interested in possible careers in computer technology.

Microsoft Youthspark summer camps get excellent reviews for their hands-on and fun approach to learning. Each individual camp lasts for two hours and is geared towards youth aged 8-13. Microsoft retail stores offer these activities free of charge to parents, and camps are taught by knowledgeable Microsoft employees who are enthusiastic about teaching computer science and technology to the next generation.
