THQ Family Fun Day – uDraw Tablet and Games Preview

A few weeks ago, my family and I were invited to attend a preview of the new THQ uDraw Tablet and games.  The event, dubbed “THQ Family fun Day,” was held at the Setai Hotel in NYC.  This event was sooo much fun!

As we entered the suite where the event was being held, we were in awe at what we saw – tons of game stations, an old fashioned photo booth, a face painter, cotton candy, a popcorn stand and more.

We got right down to business and started testing out the uDraw tablet and games.  The first game we tried was the Pictionary game.  One of the super friendly THQ reps explained how to play the game and Z.E.N. tested it out.

Next up was the Marvel Super Hero Squad: Comic Combat uDraw game.  Again, a THQ rep taught us how to play the game.  Although this game is geared for kids a little older than Z.E.N., he caught on very quickly and played for a long time.  In fact, he liked it so much he didn’t want to stop playing!

Once we finally got Z.E.N. to stop playing the Marvel Comics game, we moved on to the Kinect game stations where he got to play the Kinect Penguins of Madagascar game.

We then goofed around a bit and took some pictures in the photo booth.

We had a really good time!

THQ also provided us with an awesome goodie bag.

We got to go home with a brand new uDraw tablet for Wii.  Here’s a quick review of the uDraw tablet that I received.

uDraw Studio – Game and Tablet Review

The uDraw Studio – Game and Tablet is designed to allow players of all ages to interact with each other through the Nintendo Wii in order to explore their creative side like never before. This is where art and technology really come together to form something simple yet complex, easy but satisfying. The uDraw Studio – Game and Tablet is extremely flexible, offering much more than is apparent at first sight, to deliver a hugely fascinating, educational and pure fun product for all the family.

An Integrated Removable Wii Remote Opens Up Endless Possibilities

The sheer flexibility and creative possibilities are seemingly endless when you integrate a removable Wii Remote, which is sold separately, but certainly opens up a whole new dimension in drawing, painting and sketching.

The uDraw Studio, which comes bundled with the uDraw Game tablet, is compatible with a whole range of games, some yet to be released. Some of the games make use of the uDraw Studio’s artistic qualities, while others will make more use of the tablets input capabilities into the actual games.

Customer Reviews and Scores

There are 110 customer reviews on Amazon for the uDraw Studio – Game and Tablet at the time of writing. On average they have scored this product 3.9 out of 5 stars.

One customer said, “This uDraw tablet is nothing more than an overrated toy however. It is not by any means designed for high quality images.” To be fair, the product is being marketed as a fun way to get creative. It is not intended that serious art students should seek out the uDraw Studio – Game and Tablet as a major part of their tuition.

Other customers said, “…an artists dream tool. It is good for young artists to sharpen their skills,” “If you like drawing and coloring and want to do it on the Wii, this is a good product,” and, “Definitely recommend it!” I can also recommend the uDraw Studio – Game and Tablet.
