How To Choose Travel Destinations

family vacation

Choosing the right travel destination for a family trip is not always easy. Our whole family loves to travel, but, there are a number of considerations that have to be made when children are involved.  Additionally, a family getaway or vacation should be a fun and memorable experience for the entire crew.  Therefore, the ideal family trip should have a mix of kid-friendly activities and adult fun.  Below are some tips on how to choose travel destinations for the entire family:

In the past, we have opted for standard hotel rooms, but recently, on a few occasions we’ve scored 2-room suites that offered a little more space, and were quite nice.  Rather than choosing a standard hotel room with 2 or 3 beds, you may also want to try a 2-bedroom suite.  You can go bigger or smaller depending on the size of your family.  This type of convenience typically cost a little more; however, to have a successful family trip, a good night’s sleep is a must!

Kids usually have earlier bedtimes; therefore, if you want the luxury of watching a movie, having a conversation or sharing a few drinks with another adult after the kids are asleep, separate rooms would be a plus.

There are also cheaper alternatives to hotel rooms that you can consider. For example, you can often find centrally located apartments with full kitchens, living rooms, laundry areas and other comforts of home.

When I go on vacation, I want to be comfortable and love the little touches that remind me of home.  Having great amenities like a coffee maker, mini-bar, microwave oven, and a blow-dryer can be a big plus. If you are traveling with a baby or toddler, never assume that the apartment rental or hotel room will supply a crib or a high chair.  Calling ahead to confirm availability is an important part of the process, because even if the website of the respective accommodation lists available cribs as part of their offerings, other guests could be using them by the time you get there.

Family Activities

We love to travel as a family so it’s very important that any travel destination we decide on have activities that the whole family can enjoy. One destination that seems like it would fulfill this need is St. Louis, Missouri. St. Louis is seems like the ideal family travel destination as it has so much to offer. My son loves the outdoors, so if we were to travel to St. Louis, he would probably love checking out Forest Park, or Meramec Caverns.

Hubby is an animal lover and would probably really enjoy the the Saint Louis Zoo.

How To Choose Travel Destinations

As for me, I really like to explore a city’s history and the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial would be a great place to start. In addition, I would love to take a local excursion at the Missouri History Museum so I could visit various historical points of interest in the city.

St. Louis also appears to be a city with pulsating nightlife offerings. If you can get  babysitting arrangements that allow you to explore the destination at night, it would be a great choice.  Catering to your need for adult fun is just as important as satisfying the recreational needs of your kids.

It is great to get away from the hustle, bustle and demands of everyday life and spend quality time with the family.  Taking steps to ensure the entire family enjoys this time away will make the vacation worthwhile for everyone involved.
