After a long, busy day at work, the last thing I want to do is slave over a stove and cook. We all have to eat though, so I’m always on the lookout for quick and easy weeknight dinner ideas. Just last week, I learned about a new product Barilla Pronto Pasta. This new product from Barilla allows you to make a quick and easy pasta meal in a single pan, without the need to pre-boil water. So you know I headed to ShopRite to purchase it right away!
Making No Boil Pasta
Normally, when you cook pasta you need to boil water, add the pasta and then drain it before serving. Cooking Barilla Pronto Pasta is a little different though. You can make a quick and easy pasta meal by following the following simple steps:
– Put the pasta into a cooking pot.
– Add 3 cups of water into the pot.
– Turn on the burner, set it on high and let the pasta cook for 10 minutes.
– Stir the pasta after every two minutes to ensure all the water is absorbed by the pasta.
– Add some sauce and continue stirring until the pasta is ready.
There are five varieties of Barilla Pronto Pasta; spaghetti, rotini, elbows, penne and linguine. All these varieties can be cooked in recipes just like regular pasta. I would note though that since the pasta cooks relatively fast, the key to making a great meal lies in making sure that additions like meat or veggies are pre-cooked before adding them to the pasta.
The following is a simple recipe for making an easy weeknight dinner using Barilla Pronto penne.
Creamy Chicken Penne One Pot Pasta Recipe

- Lower heat and stir in cream cheese, chicken and tomato sauce; mix until combined.
- Sprinkle parmesan cheese over the top and garnish with fresh basil before serving.
- Serve immediately.
