This holiday season, the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey has the hottest ticket in town: A Christmas Story – The Musical. This play is based on the hilarious and touching Christmas movie, A Christmas Story.

My family and I went to see the show yesterday afternoon. Z.E.N., my nine-year old son was a little skeptical as to whether he would like it. He had never seen the movie so he had no idea what A Christmas Story was all about. He thought it would be boring.  Boy was he surprised! He really loved it and kept talking about it on the ride home. I thought the show was very well done. It was really funny and heartwarming and was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Seeing the show was a great way to kick off the holiday season.

Paper Mill Playhouse Families will love spending time together as they watch this great production. This play tells the tale of an Indiana boy named Ralphie, and his endless Christmas quest for a Red Ryder BB gun. Set in the 1940s, this piece remains a timeless American classic that is perfect for all ages. In addition to being the perfect holiday destination, tickets to this play make an ideal Christmas gift.

Also, keep in mind this special fact: a night at the theater is the kind of gift that keeps on giving via loving memories. I am a strong believer in gifting experiences rather than material things. Years from now, your children may not remember all the gifts they unwrapped,  but they will remember the time they spend doing things with with family and friends. So gifting tickets to a show like A Christmas Story – The Musical will produce memories that are better than any of the toys listed on this year’s hot toy list.

In celebration of their winter show, Paper Mill Playhouse reached out to their social media audience to find out some of their Christmas wishes. With a little help from a nearby mall Ralphie was able to deliver some holiday cheer to families all over New Jersey! Check it out!

 Beyond Christmas

In addition to A Christmas Story- The Musical, the Paper Mill Playhouse has several other fantastic productions on its performance calendar this year. A Bronx Tale, Pump Boys and Dinettes, and Westside Story are plays that mesmerize and intrigue with exciting characters and plots.

A Bronx Tale is the beloved autobiographical play written by actor Chazz Palminteri. It covers the life of an impressionable boy whose working-class father struggles to keep him from falling in with flashy neighborhood gangsters. This one-man show enjoyed amazing runs in L.A. and New York before becoming a famous Hollywood movie with the help of Robert De Niro.

Pump Boys and Dinettes is a world famous musical that has captured the heart of millions world wide. Let your New Jersey mindset travel to the rural south, where the staff of a gas station and coffee shop keep customers—and each other—entertained with sweet country tunes.

And finally, there's the West Side Story, a modern musical version of Romeo and Juliet originally made famous via the Broadway genius of Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Laurents,  Jerome Robbins, and Stephen Sondheim. This play became one of Hollywood's most famous musicals starring Natalie Wood, Rita Moreno, and more. This piece is a masterpiece of music and intrigue that bares its heart like no other.

Make sure to book your ticket now for the Paper Mill Playhouse season. Whether it's for Christmas or a night on the town, you will be transported in a magical way!
