We took a quick couples weekend getaway to Atlantic City to get away from it all as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars by Crowdtap #DoAC
Why? Because, parents should consider taking short getaways without the kids every now and then. Parenting comes with its fair share of challenges and it’s easy for couples to burn out especially when juggling between parenting and work. After a long school year plus a shocking death in the family last week, hubby and I didn’t hesitate when we received the invitation to travel to Atlantic City, NJ. We traveled out to Atlantic City last weekend and stayed at Harrah’s.
Importance of a Weekend Getaway for Parents
A weekend getaway can help relieve the stress associated with parenting by engaging in fun activities that distract the mind from the pressing matters in life.
I find these little getaways to be therapeutic. Taking some alone time helps parents to come back rejuvenated and ready to tackle family obligations and general life issues with renewed energy and focus. I also think that kids need some free time for them to practice responsibility at an earlier stage in life so a weekend getaway works for the parents as well as the kids.
The Food Scene at Atlantic City
Needless to say, the food options are plentiful at Atlantic City. On the night we arrived, we had dinner at Dos Caminos. The food there was absolutely delicious. We loved it so much we are already planning on visiting one of their locations in New York city, possibly for our 10th anniversary which is quickly approaching.
There are many other great places to eat in Atlantic, but this was our favorite!
Attractions That People Visit in Atlantic City
One of the reasons I love to visit Atlantic City is it’s proximity to where I live. It’s about a two hour drive so it’s not too far away. I also love the various attractions the city offers. The attractions provide different forms of entertainment meaning there is something for everyone.
Some of attractions we visited in Atlantic City include:
The Boardwalk
The Atlantic City Boardwalk offers visitors the opportunity to see some of the authentic works of art and history that give visitors a chance to learn about the city. Apart from art, the Boardwalk provides several arcade games for the visitors. At the Boardwalk, couples can take strolls, jog or ride around.
Sand Sculpting World Cup
The Sand Sculpting World Cup is an event that brings together sand sculptors from all over the world in one place where they compete to create the best sculptures. The event attracts many people especially the lovers of sculptures. The sand sculptures were beautiful. We were amazed at how detailed and well made some of the sculptures were.
Steel Pier
Steel Pier is a three hundred meters long amusement pier that overlooks the Boardwalk. Steel Pier offers entertaining activities such as an amusement park, concerts and exhibits. Additionally, the Steel Pier venue attracts couples of all age groups.
Nightlife in Atlantic City
While there are many nightlife venues in Atlantic City, hubby and I were happy to just relax. We did take in a live show at Harrah’s one evening.
But other than that, we enjoyed taking the time to talk and gaze at nature.
Parents who prefer clubbing and enjoying after-dark activities will be pleased to know that Atlantic City has great nightlife hot spots in Atlantic City. The city contains many nightclubs where disc jockeys entertain revelers all night long. Apart from clubs, couples can try their luck at the casinos. Overall, a trip to Atlantic City can provide a great weekend getaway for parents.
