SING is Perfect for Family Movie Nights

Sing is Perfect for Family Movie Nights

This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Do you plan family movie nights for your family? Z.E.N. loves to watch movies so we have a lot of family movie nights. SING Special Edition is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD. It’s a really good movie so I made sure to secure a copy of it so that we could watch it over and over again.

SING, an animated movie produced by Illumination Entertainment (widely known for the Despicable Me franchise) and released by Universal Studios, is a perfect film for your family movie night because it is entertaining for both adults and children. Starring the voices of veteran actors Matthew McConaughey, Seth MacFarlane,  Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, and Tori Kelly among others, it is an entertaining movie that will give your family many moments of laughter and make you sing along.

Of course we decided to watch it for our next family movie night.

I got all into it.  I made a t-shirt with a cute quote.

I Jazzed up some cupcakes with a Buster inspired koala topper.

I also made popcorn.

We enjoyed watching the movie.

The special edition includes over 60-minutes of bonus content and an exclusive music video. Z.E.N. got into the groove and danced along.

If you haven’t already seen the movie, here’s a little sneak peek.

The story starts with an optimistic koala named Buster Moon, who is currently managing his own theatre. Unfortunately, he is in dire straits since people are not interested in his shows anymore and he is being threatened regarding bankruptcy by the Bank's representative, a llama named Judith. To promote the theatre and its shows, Buster Moon and his friend Eddie decide to invite the city's animals inhabitants to participate in a singing contest. They set the prize money at $1000 but due to a typing mistake by Buster Moon's secretary,  a chameleon named Ms. Crawley, the prize money becomes $100,000.

Despite having no such amount of money, Buster Moon starts the singing competition. It is such a hit that multitudes of animals with a wide range of singing talents joined! In the end, he chooses Rosita, a very busy housewife and mother of 25 piglets; Gunter, a lively dancing pig; Mike, a self-centered street musician mouse; Johnny, the teenage son of a mobster gorilla boss; and Ash, a prickly teen porcupine who only likes punk rock. Meena, a very shy girl elephant who has a lovely singing voice, wants to join but eventually backs out due to stage fright.

In the course of the story, the trials of each of the characters are shown as they pursue their dreams. Rosita overcomes her lack of passion for dancing and is able to fit practice schedule into her parenting routine. Mike evades the gangsters and focuses on music. Johnny shows his father his love for music and the latter eventually accepts him. Ash learns to sing for herself. Meena overcomes her shyness and celebrates her passion for music.

Their first show is a failure but by encouraging each other, they eventually produce a show that showcase not only their singing abilities but also their capacity to overcome their personal challenges. While this movie is big on laughter, it is also filled with lessons in hard work, friendship and family.
