Ziplining in Maui

Ziplining in Maui

Have you ever been ziplining? I went ziplining in Maui and thought it was an amazing experience! As part of the Angry Birds Movie junket, I was invited to go ziplining to take “flying lessons” which I thought was pretty funny.  Why was it funny?  Well, if you have ever played the game, you know that the birds launch themselves from giant slingshots towards the pig's forts. This is because the Angry Birds are flightless birds and they cannot fly because they do not have wings.

We were taken to Maui Ziplines which  is located at Maui Tropical Plantation in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii.  The grounds of the plantation are beautiful. There is also a restaurant and a few shops on the grounds as well.

In order to zipline, you have to weigh between 45 and 250 lbs. They are very big on safety, for good reason, and the weight limit is strictly enforced.  In fact, all guests were weighed at the registration desk.  In addition, everyone must sign a participant form, and liability waiver.

After the weight check we got all suited up with our helmets and harnesses.

Our guides were awesome! They were so fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable. As they walked us to the first line of our ziplining journey, they offered lots of cool info about the island, the plants and different kinds of fruits that could be found on the Plantation.

There are 5 different side-by-side ziplines on this course, ranging from 300 to 900 feet.  Each line featured a slightly different experience, for instance, one of the line went over water. The course was fun and the views were awesome, but it was our guides who really made it memorable. They really made everyone feel very relaxed and safe.

When we climbed up to the top of the first platform, we were all connected to a safety cable.  In fact, we were always locked into a cable.  We were connected to a stationary line while we were waiting for our turn, and when it was finally our turn, we were connected to the zipline itself.  They were really all about safety which I really appreciate.

To actually zipline, you step up onto a block, are connected to the zipline and then when they say it’s all clear to go, you literally sit in the harness and zip away.  At first I was very nervous, but after zipping down that first line, I felt very confident zipping down the other 4 lines.  It took around 2 hours to get through the whole course.

I really enjoyed ziplining. We had a really good time!

I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Maui, who is feeling a little adventurous.
