As summer changes to fall, it's time to get your skin ready for a rather dramatic transition. After enjoying months of warm, moist, sunny summer weather, it is now time for your skin to become accustomed to cooler, drier autumn air. Fortunately, it doesn't take much to get this done. By using effective products and taking the right steps, you can seamlessly switch from summer to fall and have beautiful, radiant skin throughout the seasons. Below are some fall skin care tips to get your skin ready for autumn:
Don't Stop Using Sunscreen
Protecting your skin from UV damage is important all year round. For some reason, I always seem to forget this. Using sunscreen every day is essential to protecting the long-term health of your skin, so don’t pack it away with your shorts and swimsuit. Even though the sun isn't as intense as it was over summer, UV rays remain in the atmosphere. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends wearing sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects you from both UVA and UVB rays.
Exfoliate
Frolicking in the sun and hanging out at the pool may have left your skin feeling dry and flaky. Flaky skin can clog the pores and dull its overall appearance. Exfoliation can help. Exfoliation reveals the soft and smooth skin underneath your weathered summer skin by removing dry, dead skin cells. This fall, start with a full-body exfoliation session. Try using oil-based scrubs. They work wonderfully because they not only exfoliate, they also hydrate as well.
Avoid Hot Showers
This one is hard for me because there’s nothing more satisfying than a long, hot shower. Unfortunately, hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils and dry your skin out. To prevent your skin from becoming dry, use lukewarm rather than hot water. When you shower, keep it short — aim for a maximum of 10 minutes.
Moisturize
During the summer, using a lightweight moisturizer can prevent the skin from drying out. The change from warm air to cold air can really have a negative effect on your skin. Make the switch to a heavier, ultra-hydrating moisturizer.
I really like the powerful hydration and healing quality of Vaseline Cocoa Radiant lotion. It contains cocoa butter and shea butter whichare both beneficial to skin. It also contains Vaseline Jelly which can really help to heal dry skin. I've been using it for a long time and truly love it. It leaves my skin looking radiant. This is why I basically use it all year long. I buy it in bulk and you should too! You can find it in Walmart in the personal care section of the store. Lookout for the $1 coupon in this Sunday’s paper so you can save!
