Hubby has always had a hard time drinking water. He knows he needs to drink it, but just doesn’t like the taste of it. I had heard of people adding flavor to their water to make it more palatable and suggested this to him, but he didn’t really like the idea. But then he read about lemon water. He read that there were benefits of drinking lemon water and he started drinking it every morning and pushed me to drink it as well. It's a super simple way to stay healthy! Plus it’s easy to whip up and doesn’t take much time since he uses a juicer. He squeezes half a lemon into a glass of room temperature water using the CitriStar CS-1000 Citrus Juicer and voila! It’s done. This juicer gets all the juice and doesn't leave a drop behind. We’ve had this juicer for a long time, yet it still works like new. Although it includes a stainless steel pulp strainer, some pulp still gets through which I’m not a big fan of, but it’s not a whole lot so it’s still drinkable.
I’ve read that it's best to drink lemon water is in the morning on an empty stomach, but I haven’t really seen any compelling evidence as to why that is. In my opinion drinking it at any time can still be very beneficial. In fact, it's surprising just how much the simple combo of lemon juice and water can help improve your health. I did some further research and found some clinical studies that found some fantastic benefits of drinking lemon Water.
4 Health Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water
1. Good for Your Liver
This study seems to indicate that lemon water can be beneficial for your liver. Water, in general, is wonderful for your liver as-is, but when you add some lemon juice to the mix it becomes a very beneficial drink due to the citric acid that is found in lemons.
2. Improves Oral Health
According to Conscious Connection Magazine, one of the surprising benefits of drinking lemon water is that it actually is good for your oral health. The antiseptic properties of lemon juice allow lemon water to kill the bacteria that cause bad breath. Lemon water can also help with gingivitis and toothaches. However, there is one drawback. the citric acid in lemon juice can cause damage to your tooth enamel. For that reason, I recommend drinking lemon water out of a straw.
3. Strengthens Immune System
Lemons are full of potassium and Vitamin C, which are critical nutrients when it comes to strengthening your immune system and staving off colds. If you do have a cold, those same nutrients can help fight the cold and get you healthy again fast.
4. Prevents Premature Skin Aging
Another benefit of drinking lemon water is that it can help prevent stress-induced premature aging of the skin. This study indicated that drinking a citrus based beverage such as lemon water decreased skin thickness and wrinkle formation.
