Book Review – I Can Save the Ocean

I Can Save the Ocean: The Little Green Monster Cleans up the Beach was written by Alison Inches and illustrated by Viviana Garofoli. This book is part of the “Little Green Books” series, which is a new eco-friendly series from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division.

Like in the Book, I Can Save the Earth, Max is the main character.  Max is back to his old ways in this book.  In the book, Max goes to the beach to have a picnic, but fails to clean up after himself.  He then goes snorkeling and is surprised to see so much garbage near the bottom of the ocean.  He acknowledges how ugly the ocean looks and immediately decides that he will pick up trash on the beach so that it would not wind up finding its way to the ocean.  He also takes the time to learn about how to start saving the ocean and also encourages other beach goers to do the same.

This book provides awesome tips on how to keep our environment free from trash.  It also provides explanations as to why we need to take action.

The book is printed on 100% recycled paper, with 100% vegetable based inks. It is very easy to read and follow. A glossary of terms is included at the end to help explain some of the new words found within the book. The illustrations are bright, colorful and cartoon like.

I would highly recommend this book to younger children who are ready to learn about doing their part to help save the environment.
