Have you ever tried RVing? Our family went RVing for the first time last year and truly enjoyed it. RVing is perhaps one of the most exciting pastimes that families could undertake. The open road, an endless buffet of food choices, and sites will make the trip worthwhile, but one thing that is important to figure out is the best RV campground for your family. The following are a few tips to help you find a good RV park campground.
Atmosphere Matters
You should consider the atmosphere of a location when considering RV camping sites. Before going on our first RV camping trip, we were given a list of campgrounds to choose from. A few on the list were nearby, but ultimately, we decided on an RV park that was over 3 hours away. Why did we choose to travel so far? We did our research and read many reviews. We were looking for a campground that could accommodate our large RV, was well maintained, family friendly and had kid-friendly recreation options. We also wanted one with pull-through campsites. We were new to driving such a large vehicle and didn’t want to have to back into and out of our campsite. Out of all the campgrounds on our list, Lake George RV Camp in Lake George, NY appeared to fit the bill. It did not disappoint. We loved it so much we went back again last month.
Amenities
Camping is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This doesn’t mean that you have to rough it. I’m a city girl and roughing it is not for me. If you share the same sentiment, you’ll want to look for a campground that has amenities to help ensure that you enjoy your stay. Many RV parks offer free Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, showers, and sometimes added perks like pools/spas, dog parks, general stores, playgrounds, etc. You might want to find out about showers or restrooms, too. All of these are practical benefits or amenities that could make your stay a little easier. Be sure to ask about some of these before you choose the location for your RV camping trip.
Local Fun
Of course, it makes sense to check out local activities while you are traveling. Many of today’s campgrounds offer a wide range of getaway activities that go beyond the standard swimming pools and camp stores. Campgrounds located near popular tourist destinations frequently provide free or discounted transportation to and from town. The park where we stayed offered trolley service. We rode the trolley service to visit the town of Lake George.
When you are choosing a campground, make a list of the activities you are interested in. Make sure the campground you are considering offers these activities or has an attraction nearby. For example, if shopping is your thing, you may want to choose a campground that is not too far from a shopping center.
Within Reach
No one wants to talk about money, but it is vital when planning a trip like this one. You have to stick to a budget to make sure you can live, have fun, and still get back home without any issues. Finding a campground that matches your budget is vital. You might need to sacrifice some of the extra amenities, and just stick with the vital ones if you find that a particular campground is too expensive for you. Your camping trip does not have to be a financial headache, so don't make it one by thinking that niceties are necessities.
Consider a National Park
There is a difference between privately owned campgrounds and National Parks. National Parks are generally less expensive than private campsites. While some National Parks like Trailor Village at Grand Canyon National Park, offer limited or full hookups for your RV, the majority do not. This is because they are protected grounds. Seeing the exquisite beauty the National Parks have to offer may be a good trade off though. It is also important to note that there are numerous RV rules and regulations at national parks. Therefore, it is very important to make sure you know the RV rules and restrictions ahead of time.
Finding the best RV campground can seem daunting. Hopefully, some of these tips make it a little easier for you to choose the right camp for your family.
