Fun Activities For Autumn That Families Can Do Together

Fall is a time for gently ushering the holiday season in. As the leaves change colors and the weather grows crisp, kids start spending more time inside and families draw closer. During the months of autumn, there are countless crafts and fun activities for autumn that families can do together. Following is a fall bucket list that every household should take advantage of.

Make Kites

make and fly a kite this fall

Windy weather means that it's kite-flying time. I have never flown a kite, but hubby is an expert at making and flying kites. Making kites is a great opportunity to teach your little ones about aerodynamics and to flex your own fantastic, kite making skills. Head to the craft store and pick up everything you need for creating dazzling, colorful creations that are sure to capture attention. When everything is done, head to the park and see if you can make your kites soar.

Navigate Your Way Through A Corn Maze

Although fall seems like a time of winding down for winter, fields are actually bursting with produce. Take your family to a local corn maze and see if you can negotiate this challenging puzzle together. We did this at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm last year and had a blast. Most farms that host these activities also have an incredible selection of produce to offer. Once you've finally make it through the maze, you can shop for fresh greens, colorful squash, corn on the cob and other local fare that you can cook together at home.

Make Candied Apples

There are plenty of ways to take advantage of all that fall produce. Making candied apples is an activity that is guaranteed to delight. Your kids will love this process all the more if you let the help you make caramel and other candy dipping sauces from scratch.

Create Acorn Families

Create Acorn people crafts

Some of the best activities for autumn are absolutely free. With all of the foliage falling to the ground, there are bound to be plenty of free things that your kids can pick up for indoor crafts. Collect a bunch of acorns and use marker, paint, sequins and a glue gun to make unique-miniature people. After your acorn families are complete, having fun acting out different holiday scenarios together.

Set Up A Movie Projector Outside

Nowadays, you can score high-quality movie projectors online for a very reasonable cost. These can be used to screen movies or play DVDs. Pick out an old fall favorite, set up your best camping chairs and your fire pit and prepare to roast marshmallows and munch popcorn in the crisp night air. Best of all, with a little creativity, you can use your garage door or a blank wall on your home for a movie screen.

Bake Pumpkin Seeds

Cutting and cleaning pumpkins is only half the fun of making jack-o'lanterns. After you've scooped the insides of your pumpkins out, go searching for the seeds. Wash, clean and dry these and then put them in the oven after tossing them with a small amount of coconut oil or other cooking oil. You can add a dash of of salt on them once they come out and take them outdoors when you get ready to watch a movie on the projector.

Jump In Puddles And Warm Yourself By The Fire

jump in puddles this fall

When the rain comes, don't let it dampen your spirits. Dress everyone up in their rain gear and see who can make the biggest splashes in nearby puddles. Kids love splashing in puddles but are often discouraged to do so. Make a day of it and let your own inner child run free. When you're done, dry off and dress up in your warmest pajamas so that you can all snuggle up together and read books by the fire.
