How Going Natural Can Be Easy For A Busy Mom Looking To Make Her Family Healthier

Many people are going natural in small ways each day. The trend of becoming environmentally conscious has made people change shopping, parenting, hygiene, and other daily activities. Here is a look at steps that I have taken to join the “green” revolution and provide a healthier life for my family.

The first step I have taken to live more naturally is to change our eating habits. Instead of heading to the grocery store and buying foods filled with preservatives and tons of snacks, I am trying to buy more organic foods and more fresh produce. Because organic foods are somewhat pricey, I can’t afford to buy all organic foods, so my priority is to buy organic meats meat and poultry products that do not contain any hormones or antibiotics. Organic meats coupled with fresh fruits and vegetables makes for more well balanced and healthier meals.

The next step I have taken to make going natural more simple is to use a more natural skin care regime. I have recently switched the shampoos, body washes and lotions that we use to ones that are more natural. There are numerous product lines that are beneficial to the skin. Yes To, for example, is a nourishing brand of body lotion for people with normal to dry skin and hair. Their Yes To Carrots line includes carrots, sweet almond oil, and shea butter to help the body retain necessary moisture.


What makes this even better is that the products do not contain parabens. Paraben free products do not have common preservatives that may cause allergic reactions or cause contact dermatitis. An even more disturbing result of parabens is that they mimic the effect of estrogen and interrupt the body’s hormonal balance. This is a great concern for developing teens or pregnant women. Another easy switch I have made is to replace some of the traditional cleaning products in our home with natural cleaning products. In fact, this can save a lot of money since a person can use common ingredients already in the home to keep the house sparkling. Vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice are just a few items that can help keep the house clean. Vinegar is a wonderful all purpose cleaner. When mixed with warm water, it can disinfect and deodorize all parts of the home. Lemon juice is good at dissolving soap scum and hard water deposits. It is useful to clean dishes and remove stains. When mixed with olive oil, it makes an excellent furniture polish as well. Baking soda makes an effective non abrasive cleaner. It also has the power to deodorize. It can be used in the refrigerator, in the laundry, or anywhere where odors build. Using natural products can eliminate toxic chemicals that can damage the skin or have negative effects inside the body when inhaled.

It does not need to be difficult for a mother to change a few items each day in order to live a healthier and more environmentally friendly life. Eating fresh foods, using a natural skin care regime, and using natural cleaning products around the house are just a few simple ways to live better. Going natural can be a gift of health and well being to the entire family.

    • So true! I think it’s because there’s so much processed food all around us. Plus they’re convenient and easy. We’re trying hard to stay away from processed food, I’m not saying we’ll never have it, but trying to cut down on it alot!

You must have at least 6 hours (preferably 8) of good, uninterrupted sleep every night for maximum beauty. When you get plenty of sleep, your skin will be clear and smooth, and you won’t have bags under your eyes. Good sleep is definitely one of the best natural skin care treatments available.

    • That is something I am definitely trying to work on. I don’t get enough sleep!
