How To Make Money Selling Clothing Online

Duck Brand sponsored this post. All opinions are mine alone.

Did you know that you could make money selling clothes online? It’s true! Back in the year 2000, I opened up an eBay account.  I had a bunch of clothes and shoes that either no longer fit me, or that I was just never going to wear, so I decided to try selling them online. My parents thought I was nuts, but when they saw that my items were actually selling, they started giving me things to sell for them too! Back then, eBay was the major player in the online reselling game.  But now, there are so many more platforms out there. With platforms like eBay, Mercari, and Thred Up, it’s incredibly easy to make money selling clothing online. Best of all, you won’t have to travel further than your own closet to start building your inventory. Once you learn the ropes, you can expand and start sourcing for more merchandise to flip on eBay or your selling platform of choice, to make big profits.  Here are some tips on how to make money selling clothing online:

Marketing Your Wares On eBay

eBay is my favorite place to sell stuff. It’s where I started and I still sell all kinds of items on there. With eBay, you’ll need to create a seller profile. You can then upload photos and descriptions of your items and can choose how you wish to offload them. You can set a “buy now” price, or you can let your prospects engage in a bidding war for your goods. Best of all, eBay will let you set a minimum sales price for bidding so that you don’t have to part with your valuables for next to nothing. Once your item sells, eBay will take a small commission based on the final selling price of the item.

Tips For Selling Your Clothes On Poshmark

Selling on Poshmark involves a bit more work. It is more of a social marketplace. when you list items for sale, you are encouraged to share your items as well as other seller’s wares. Rather than listing your items at a specific price and waiting for someone to claim and pay for them, you can attend virtual buying and selling events where you can connect with and negotiate with prospects. When sales do occur, Poshmark will retain a flat commission of $2.95.

Things To Know About ThredUp

ThredUp is much more simple and straightforward than either eBay or Poshmark. Rather than dealing with buyers directly, you will be consigning your items to this company. You’ll simply need to box your clothing up and ship it off. Once ThredUp has assigned these things a reasonable value based upon their sales potential, you will be sent a payment via PayPal. In some cases, you may need to wait until your items are actually sold by ThredUp before collecting this fee.

Increase Your Profits At Swap.com

Swap.com is a sales platform with a structure that’s very similar to that of ThredUp. After you’ve sent your items in, Swap.com will post them on their website for you. With this platform, however, you’ll always have to wait for your products to be purchased before collecting your profits. Items that aren’t sold can be donated or returned to you, according to your stated preferences.

Using Mercari To Make Extra Cash

Mercari is a mobile app marketplace that is meant to function a lot like eBay. As a seller, you can choose how much you want to list your items for, and how you wish to market them. The entire sales process is in your hands and thus, you can collect your money just as soon as you’re able to successfully convert an interested prospect into a paying customer.

Building A Customer Base And Keeping Your Clients Happy

To make money selling clothing online, it’s often important for sellers to build and maintain solid reputations. Take many photos of your items and detailed measurements to minimize returns. It is also very important to be very transparent about any flaws your item may have. This is especially true on platforms like eBay, Poshmark, and Mercari. In addition, customers want to receive their items fast, so make sure to use the best shipping services when completing these transactions. You should also pack your items with care and strive for an aesthetically-pleasing presentation. You also need to make sure your items are secure when shipping.  I use Duck Max Strength Packaging Tape and other, high-quality packing materials to ensure that my goods always arrive in stellar condition. I can’t stress how important it is to use quality shipping supplies. I invest in quality bubble mailers and tape. Duck Max tape is one hundred times stronger than acrylic tape and is ideal for heavy-duty shipping. I found it in the office supplies aisle at Sam’s Club and the 8-pack was reasonably priced under $20. Be sure to look for it the next time you’re at Sam’s Club.
