Everyone wants to capture those magical moments in life, but for moms, those moments are constantly presenting themselves. Before you know it, you've snapped off 30 photos in a day. Most of us think, “We'll get to organizing them later,” but most often, later never comes. Before you know it, you have hundreds, thousands, of digital photos, videos, and a huge project of deciding when and how to organize them. At least that’s how it is for me. That is until now! If you’re trying to figure out how to how to organize digital photos like I am, check out these tips.

How To Organize Digital Photos

Download

Gather all of your digital cameras, memory cards, and devices and transfer all of your digital images to one central location. I set up a master folder called “Photo'” on my computer and transferred all the photos to that folder.

Declutter

Review each image, and delete any images that are duplicates, blurry or just plain bad. I can't believe I had so many photos that were so similar to each other. I took the time to review each one and then picked the best one of the bunch.

Create a filing system

Decide how you want to organize your photos. I found chronological to be the easiest way for me. I have a folder for each year, and then within each year, I set up monthly folders.

Backup Regularly

One thing I learned is that it’s very important to back up your photos. I lost hundreds of photos one year when my computer crashed. Since then, I’ve made it a habit to back up my photos regularly. I recommend buying an external drive. They provide a relatively easy way of backing up your data and many are now both lightweight and small. The SanDisk Extreme Portable External Drive is an excellent place to start.

Compatibility

The SanDisk Extreme is compatible with Windows, Mac, USB-C, or USB-A. As it is designed for compatibility with Mac and Windows, the SanDisk external drive is equipped with a 3.1 USB C-type connector and also comes with a C-type USB to C-type cable and a C-type to A-type adapter; this means that it is compatible with current, new, or older PCs and Macs.
