Learning How to Balance Life – 3 Tips to Get You Started

Life can be crazy. Some days I feel like I am constantly running around, trying to accomplish everything on my to-do list. With everything on my plate, I know I am ‘trying to have it all.’ I am a mother, wife, blogger, and business woman. But I do not simply want to be those things; I want to excel at all of them. I want to be the best mother I can be to my son, the best wife to my husband, and a successful business woman. Work Life Balance - © VRD - Fotolia.com

I have to be honest, though, some days life just gets in the way. Some nights I am just too tired to read Z.E.N. a bed time story. Other days all I want to do is sleep for the entire day (yeah, I wish!). But those are the days that I am able to look around and truly be grateful for everything in my life.

Since starting this journey, I have learned many things. I love to share tips with other moms and read up on how to maintain balance.  I’ve even garnered some good tips from reality TV (not all reality TV shows are bad!). Some of the greatest lessons I have learned are how to maintain and enjoy a balanced life. It’s not always easy though.  The greatest tip I can give anyone with a busy schedule like mine is to set aside time to spend with your family. No matter what, do not give that up. Work will always be there when you return but I will never be able to get back the time spent with my son and husband. I treasure the little moments I am able to steal with them. I know when I look back on my life those are the moments I will remember.

Another tip I can give is that it is OK to not get everything done. For someone like me, this lesson took a long time to learn. I want to accomplish everything NOW. But there are some days that it just is not possible. And that is alright. Learning to let things go and pick them up tomorrow is a hard lesson to learn but so worthwhile. Don’t lose time with your family or lose sleep thinking about what you didn’t get done. I promise it will be there tomorrow.

The last tip I can give you is to live in the moment. Sure life is hectic and overwhelming at times. But when I take a moment to slow down and think about my life, I find myself so thankful. I am so lucky to be able to be this busy and do what I love. And at the end of the day I am able to come home and enjoy time with my two men. How lucky am I?

What about you? How do you balance everything in your life? Do you have any other tips to share?

  • Wow this has become such a struggle for me lately! Thanks so much for sharing! its so important to remember to find that balance!

  • It is definitely good to fins a balance. I try to set goals for myself each day of what I want to get done. Once I get those things done each day, I do something I want to do even if it’s something as small as reading a chapter in a book. It helps me keep a balance!

  • I am so with you on this. I am also a working mom, blogger and currently going through a difficult pregnancy. It wasn’t until I became sick that I realized I couldn’t keep up the same pace and had to scale back, which is tough for me. I am a huge workaholic and have had to adjust for various reasons to be a better mom and person in general to be less stressed and more ‘me’. 🙂

  • I am still trying to find a balance. Thanks for the pep talk! I needed it this week.

  • I think the biggest thing is to live in the moment. I’m slowly learning that when I’m playing with my daughter, the iPhone stays in the other room so I’m not tempted to check it. It makes all the different to her and that’s worth it.

  • Wow its like you read my mind. Lately I am struggling to find balance; and I keep falling short. Our newly acquired 2 1/2 year old granddaughter moved in in May and I haven’t figured it out yet. Her Mom works outside our home so we are together a lot; and even when her Mom is here she wants me. I agree on spending time with family; I just need to figure out how to keep making an income while doing so. Thanks again for the great tips and post.
