Have you heard? Despicable Me 3 Special Edition is now available on Blu-ray & DVD!!  It’s a really fun movie so I’m happy we got a copy of it so that we can watch it over and over again. It’s the # 1 animated comedy of the year which makes it the ultimate holiday gift and features an all new Mini Movie, Minion Moments and more!

We can’t get enough of the characters. Gru, his wife Lucy, their three adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions provide hours of family fun in this heartwarming comedy. The Walmart exclusive is really cool and features a limited time gift set with a super soft, PLUSH Minion backpack. Love it!

To celebrate the Blu-ray/DVD release, I decided to do a quick craft. Something we could use while watching the movie. I decided to make a DIY sharpie mug. They are very easy to make. Z.E.N. and I enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate together using the new minion themed mugs. Want to make them too? Here’s how:

  • 2 yellow mugs
  • A Sharpie. I used a regular Sharpie here, but as I mentioned in my last Sharpie mug post, oil based Sharpie pens  work best.
  • Tape
  • Minions stencils (I purchased my stencil here)
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Nail polish remover
  • Q-tips
  • Cotton balls

Minions Stencils

  • Use a cotton  ball and rubbing alcohol to remove any residue from the mug’s surface.
  • Affix the stencils onto the mugs using tape.
  • Using the Sharpie, outline each sticker. Then randomly add dots to create a cool effect.
  • Let the paint dry overnight.
  • Once the paint is dry, carefully remove the stickers.
  • If needed, use nail polish remover and Q-tips to make minor corrections and touch-ups.
  • You can stop at this step, but if you want your design to survive normal dishwashing or even the dishwasher, you will need to do this additional step.
  • Place the mug on a baking sheet and then place it into cold oven. Set temperature at 450. After oven reaches the temperature, turn the oven off.  Leave the mug in the closed oven until the mug has completely cooled down.

About the Movie

Illumination, the studio that brought you Sing, The Secret Life of Pets and the Despicable Me franchise, continues the adventures of Gru and his family in Despicable Me 3. After he is fired from the Anti-Villain League for failing to take down Balthazar Bratt, the latest evil mastermind to threaten humanity, Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother — a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin’s despicable footsteps — the former super-villain rediscovers just how good it feels to be bad.
