Are you looking for ways to keep your kids busy during summer vacation? Reading over the summer is an excellent way to keep your kids occupied and increase their knowledge at the same time. There is a growing number of reading incentive programs for kids that encourage your child to read and reward them for their actions. Following are seven kid-friendly reading incentive options you might want to consider:
TD Bank rewards children with $10 if they manage to read 10 books over summer holidays.
Showcase Cinemas will reward your child with a free ticket to a movie if they read a book and then bring in a report on the book they have successfully completed. This promotion is offered in a number of locations and is also open to children under six years of age even without a book report.
Barnes & Noble will reward your child with a free book if they read eight books and track their reading progress in a journal.
Sylvan Learning offers Book Adventures to encourage children to read. Available for kids ranging in age from kindergarten to grade eight, this handy program encourages children to read a variety of books, offers quizzes on their reading material, and then offers a number of reward options.
Chuck E. Cheese has a great reading incentive program for kids. Parents print off a reading rewards calendar and then fill in each day when their child spends time reading. The completed calendar is taken to a participating Chuck E. Cheese location and is redeemed for ten Chuck E. Cheese tokens.
Book It's summer reading program rewards children who read five books with an opportunity to win Book It prizes.
Half Price Books also offers a summer reading incentive program for children. Their Feed Your Brain program rewards children with Bookworm Bucks once a child has completed at least 300 minutes of reading.
These are just a few of the incentive-based reading programs available to kids this summer. Check your local library or community center to see if there are any programs in your area that encourage kids to read. A summer spent reading is not only a fabulous way to build memories, it also encourages a love of exploration and learning. Whether your child spends time reading classics like Charlotte’s Web or dives into the Harry Potter Series, their summer months will be well spent when you encourage them to explore their world through reading.
