Pork Chops: A Great Source of Protein

This is a sponsored post for the National Pork Board, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Growing up I always heard that eating pork would lead to weight gain.  It’s something I heard a lot and it became ingrained in me, so it came as a shock to me when I heard that this was a myth and that eating certain cuts of pork could actually help with weight loss. Wait, what?  Yes, certain cuts of pork are packed with protein, which is beneficial to weight loss.

Protein is the most significant source of fuel for the body. Protein builds muscle, which in turn shreds fat and leads to long term weight loss. Lean pork is an excellent source of protein, and many professional athletes incorporate it in their diet to enjoy stronger and more defined muscles.

Since many cuts of pork  are naturally low in fat, the protein in pork chops does double duty by helping to power the muscles and burn fat. Research from Purdue University has shown that lean pork packs a wallop when it comes to protein—the key building blocks in creating new muscle. Another little known source of protein is eggs and yogurt. While most people don't think of these foods are protein-packed, they often are the main staple in vegetarian diets. Therefore, eating a small meal that includes protein before or after your workout will help you to burn more calories and build more muscle to aid in weight loss.

Pass the pork chops please! Based on al the above, serving up some pork chops, every new and then, is a no brainer. Hubby whipped up a great meal the other day that included pork chops and we thoroughly enjoyed them.  He marinated them overnight and then boiled them a for a few minutes first, prior to throwing them on the grill.  Yummy!
