Free Things to do in Atlantic City

There are so Many Things to do in Atlantic City!free in atlantic city

Looking for things to do in NJ? How about taking a drive over to Atlantic City, NJ? Philip and I explored Atlantic City last year and really enjoyed it.  Atlantic City is also the perfect city to get some walking in! There are so many things to see and do, that you’ll definitely need to take a few days to enjoy the city.

While the casinos draw tourists in, sightseeing is far more rewarding (and less of a gamble!). Save your pennies by finding free things to do in Atlantic City. Here are my favorites:

The Atlantic City Boardwalk is a huge attraction with excellent ratings on sites like TripAdvisor. You can sightsee and people watch while enjoying the ocean breeze.  You can also check out some of the little dollar shops and restaurants during your trip. Even though it’s not free, for like two bucks you can take the tram, which travels the entire length of the boardwalk

Enjoy the breathtaking views of the beaches, which are perfect for families. The beaches are free, and they’re some of the most beautiful in New Jersey. It can get kind of crowded when the weather is nice though, so be prepared!

Stop by the Absecon Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country, even if it’s just to take pictures. New Jersey’s tallest lighthouse, and the country’s third tallest, it’s more than 150 years old! If you go up top, it’ll cost you $7 to climb ($4 for children, under 4 and military are free), but you’ll see unbeatable views of the Atlantic City Skyline. There’s also a gift shop and educational museum inside.

At Brighton Park, you’ll see the Korean War Memorial. It’s open daily, and it’s always free.

The Atlantic City Historical Museum is located on Garden Pier and is open from Sat-Wed. Here, you’ll learn about the history of Atlantic City. They have postcards, costumes, and artifacts displaying the history of the city.

Take a tour of the Atlantic City Utilities Authority’s (“ACUA”) wind farm. ACUA offers free 1-hour, open house tours every Monday and Friday during the summer at 12 pm  No appointment necessary!

Window shop at The Playground Atlantic City. I say “window shop” because these are stores like Burberry and Gucci! In the top 3 for the best shopping in Atlantic City, The Playground is a splendid place to spend the evening.

While it’s not free, you should try some saltwater taffy while you’re here – it’s been an Atlantic City specialty for over a century!
