Four Great Ways You Can Help Support Our Troops

“We need to thank all of our troops, and particularly those for whom we can never express enough gratitude for they have given their lives so that all of us may be free and that our democracy can be a shining light for the rest of the world.” ~ Virgil Goode

Four Great Ways You Can Help Support Our Troops

With Veteran’s Day coming up, many families are planning on showing their support for the troops, both past and current. Whether you know somebody who has fought in a war or is currently serving active duty in the military, showing your support can be enough to get them through the hardships that come with such service. Two of my uncles served so I know firsthand some of the struggles they faced while they were on active duty. There are numerous different ways to support our troops, ranging from a variety of different projects and donations. Consider some of the following ways that you and your family can help support our troops.

Write a Thankful Letter

There are few things that can be as personal and important to a person in military service as a handwritten letter. It can be heartwarming during a particularly difficult period, and will show your appreciation of their services. Think about what you can write that can add a personal touch to a warm message. You can choose to share a story about a family member or friend that you know who is also serving in the armed forces, or can simply express your thanks.

Offer to Volunteer at a Local Group Effort

There are many websites available that can provide you with volunteering opportunities around your local area. All that you have to do is enter your zip code and you will have the chance to help a local military family. You will be able to help through a variety of projects, or you can simply donate something, whether money or a personal item, that will help the family know that they are in your thoughts.

Send a Personalized Care Package

Soldiers may be required to leave home for months, even years at a time. Many will miss things that remind them of home, and sometimes the right type of care package can be enough to let them know that people are thinking about them. You can choose to send a package to a military family or a soldier on active duty. Think about what things they might be missing and send a letter along with the package. Many different packages can be sent through the USO2GO program, which will deliver your personal messages and packages directly to the troops.

Look into Marie Callender’s Comforts From Home Project

Marie’s established the Comforts From Home Project with the aim of bringing fond memories and thoughts of home to those not at home. They are planning on bringing those home comforts to the brave men and women who protect America in the military. By purchasing a specially marked package of the company’s meals and desserts, they will be making a donation to USO2GO for the military.

This special event will be hosted by Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible, Genevieve Gorder from HGTV Design Star and Gary Sinise, the award-winning actor and founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation. I am betting that the show will be a heart warming event that brings the comforts of home to American troops in surprising ways that only Marie Callender’s can.
